This policy explains what information Well Handbook (wellhandbook.com) collects when you visit, and what we do with it. In short: we collect as little as we can, we don’t sell your information, and you can read the site without giving us anything.
What we collect
When you visit
Our web host, DreamHost, automatically processes standard technical information when you load a page, such as your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time, in its server logs. It uses this to deliver the site, keep it secure and troubleshoot problems. Our domain’s DNS is provided by Cloudflare, which points browsers to our host; the pages themselves are served directly by DreamHost.
Analytics: we don’t currently use any analytics or visitor-tracking service. If we add one, we’ll update this page to name it, explain what it collects and how to opt out.
When you leave a comment
If you comment, WordPress (the software the site runs on) stores the name, email address and (optional) website you enter, plus your IP address and browser user agent. Your email address is never shown publicly. Comments are moderated, so they may be held for review before they appear. An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a Gravatar profile picture.
If you tick the box to save your details, cookies remember your name, email and website for next time (they last one year).
When you email us
If you email us at hello@wellhandbook.com, we keep your message and email address only so we can reply and follow up, and we won’t add you to any list. Site email is handled by our email provider, DreamHost.
Email newsletter
We don’t currently run an email newsletter or collect email sign-ups. If that changes, we’ll update this page to name the service, what’s collected and how to unsubscribe.
Cookies
Well Handbook itself sets cookies only when you choose to save your comment details, or for site administrators who log in. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
Affiliate links
We don’t currently use affiliate links. If we join affiliate programs later, clicking one of those links may let the retailer or affiliate network set a cookie or record the click so they can credit us if you buy something. We would never receive your name, address or payment details from them. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Who we share information with
We don’t sell or rent personal information. We share it only with the service providers that run the site (hosting, DNS and email forwarding), when the law requires it, or to protect the site and its visitors.
How long we keep it
Approved comments and their details are kept as long as the comment is on the site. Comments we don’t approve, or that are spam, are deleted. Messages are kept only as long as needed to handle them.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, including your comments. Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU/UK), you may have additional rights under local law. Email us at hello@wellhandbook.com (or see the Contact page), and we’ll respond within 30 days.
Children
Well Handbook is written for adult homeowners. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information (for example by adding analytics, a newsletter or affiliate links), we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
